About
Jess (she/her) is a certified Postpartum Doula, a Prenatal and Postpartum yoga instructor and Hypnobabies® Birth Educator. Jess grew up in upstate NY, and after graduating with a B.S. of Environmental Science from Roanoke College, made her way Westward. While working for the National Forest Service, Jess fell in love with the Pacific Northwest, and grew to call Portland, OR home.
Each year on her birthday Jess' mother told the story of Jess’ birth with such passion and love that Jess grew up knowing birth could be a transformative and cathartic experience. While expecting her first child Jess fell in love with pregnancy and the birthing process. Jess and her husband took a Hypnobabies® course which reinforced her beliefs that birth could be a harmonious event between mind, body and spirit.
After the birth of her first daughter, however Jess experienced the gap in care that many families face after birth. All her preparations during pregnancy and birth did not prepare her for the many transformations that accompanied parenthood. It was at that point Jess realized she wanted to support birthing people and their families at every stage of their journey.
Whether it's practicing yoga, caring for new parents or instructing a Hypnobabies® class, Jess approaches each and every family with curiosity, tenderness and respect. Jess believes everyone is an expert when it comes to knowing their own body and their baby. As a birth educator, Jess strives to inform individuals about the choices they have surrounding their births and works to help parents visualize the birth they most desire. As a yoga instructor, Jess works to help people become comfortable in their changing bodies and uses movement as a modality for healing. And as a postpartum doula, Jess delights in supporting parents so that they can put their best foot forward on their new path. Jess believes when a baby is born a parent is born and both need a village of support during this new wave of life.
When Jess isn't working with families, she is spending time with her own- her two incredible daughters, hilarious husband and dog, Honey. Jess loves exploring new places to paddle board around the PNW, rock climbing, cooking, and time with close friends. Jess also enjoys spending time with her greater community; her fellow doulas at Bridgetown Baby and her Ready, Set, Grow movement family.
